CMS Innovation Center Announces Early Termination of Several Payment Models
- On March 12, 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center announced the early termination of several payment model trials by December 31, 2025.
- The CMS Innovation Center will end the Maryland Total Cost of Care model, Primary Care First model, End-Stage Renal Disease Treatment Choices model, and Making Care Primary model by December 31, 2025.
- The Vermont All-Payer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Model and Maternal Opioid Misuse (MOM) Model will conclude as scheduled on December 31, 2025.
- The Integrated Care for Kids (InCK) Model may be reduced in size, which currently includes participants from five states and two organizations in Illinois.
- The Innovation Center will not implement the Medicare $2 Drug List Model and Accelerating Clinical Evidence Model.
- The Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model is still underway and is currently accepting applications for state participants.
- Participants in the models set for termination will receive follow-up communication regarding the transition and wind-down process.
