Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why did AMCP form a political action committee (PAC)?
AMCP formed the PAC to support candidates who promote policies that improve the practice of managed care pharmacy. Prescription drug prices consistently rank as a top issue for voters, so it’s important to ensure that the managed care perspective is represented in these policy conversations.
Q: What is a political action committee?
A political action committee, or PAC, is a fund that accepts contributions from members of an organization to be spent on certain permissible political activity, typically by financially supporting—subject to annual limits—the election campaigns of candidates aligned with the PAC’s policy priorities. They are regulated by the Federal Election Commission and are required to make public disclosures about their activity. Corporate donations to PACs are prohibited by federal law.
Q: What candidates will AMCP PAC support?
AMCP PAC supports bipartisan Congressional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to improving the practice of managed care pharmacy and are consistent with AMCP’s core values. In practice, this means most AMCP PAC disbursements will be made to candidates who are incumbent Members of Congress and serve on Congressional committees with jurisdiction over health care issues. There may be candidates on such committees who AMCP PAC will not support due to disqualifying conduct. If you have questions about specific candidates, please reach out to Adam Colborn.
Q: Who can contribute/donate to AMCP PAC?
Federal law allows current individual AMCP members, AMCP employees, and their immediate family who live in the same household to contribute. At this time, only AMCP members and employees may contribute. Family contributions will be accepted at a later date. AMCP members must log-in to the AMCP PAC website to make a contribution. Contributions from the general public and corporations are prohibited by federal law. If you are not a member but would like to contribute to AMCP PAC, you must first join AMCP at amcp.org.
