Nearly 1,800 Managed Care Pharmacy Professionals Gather for AMCP Nexus 2020 Virtual

Alexandria, Va., Oct. 19, 2020 – This week, AMCP Nexus 2020 Virtual will welcome more than 1,700 managed care pharmacy professionals from across the country for five days of focused, essential learning opportunities centered on “making the way for innovation” in managed care pharmacy.

The event starts with a pre-meeting program, “Critical Conversations” on Monday, Oct. 19, followed by a week of programming through Friday, Oct. 23. This year’s gathering is being held virtually, offering more educational opportunities as well as networking opportunities for attendees.

“Today’s health care climate is changing and spurring innovation,” said AMCP CEO Susan Cantrell, RPh, CAE.  “As managed care pharmacy professionals, we must take the lead and set the pace in developing new solutions to ensure patients get the medications they need at costs they can afford. I’m thrilled that although we cannot be physically together, we are able to provide this platform for managed care professionals to connect and learn about the impact we can – and must – have on the system moving forward.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, AMCP had to adjust its fall meeting to virtual and has built an invaluable event for pharmacists, physicians, and nurses, as well as administrators overseeing pharmacy benefits in health plans, accountable care organizations, integrated delivery networks, and Medicare Part D and Medicaid plans.

“We built AMCP Nexus 2020 Virtual with our members and managed care pharmacy professionals in mind in every detail,” said AMCP Vice President of Meetings and Membership Betty Whitaker, MBA, CMP, CAE. “Innovation in managed care pharmacy starts with AMCP members and others attending AMCP Nexus 2020 Virtual. Through their experience, they will get the tools they need to move the industry forward and help patients get the medications they need at a cost they can afford.”

AMCP Nexus 2020 Virtual includes sessions that are relevant, timely, innovative, and interactive, and that provide managed care pharmacists the knowledge and skills they need to acquire, maintain, and enhance their professional competence. Topics will be focused on five tracks and AMCP will integrate key information about COVID-19 and managed care pharmacy into each track, which include:

  • Drugs, Diseases, and the Managed Care Impact

  • Legislative and Regulatory Trends

  • Managed Care Research in Action

  • Focus on Managed Care Pharmacy

  • Making the Way for Innovation

The event kicks off with the pre-meeting program, which focuses on future trends in health technology and digital therapeutics and aims to help payers understand how technology and digital therapeutics are being used and what the future may look like, especially as the nation – and world – continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s opening keynote speaker is New York Times bestselling author, Johns Hopkins University professor of public health, and leader in COVID-19 research Dr. Marty Makary.

Through AMCP Foundation’s health and wellness initiatives, Nexus 2020 Virtual attendees may also participate in the AMCP Foundation 5k for the Future as well as the Sleep-In for Success fundraiser.
