AMCP Statement on the Introduction of the Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act of 2022

Alexandria, Va., April 4, 2022 — AMCP applauds Senators Moore Capito (R-WV) and Shaheen (D-NH) and Congressmen Thompson (D-CA-5) and McKinley (R-WV-1) on the introduction of the bipartisan Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act of 2022 (S. 3791/H.R. 7051). One of AMCP’s top federal priorities, this bill will authorize coverage of prescription digital therapeutics (PDTs) by the Medicare and Medicaid programs. PDTs are evidence-based treatments subject to review and approval by the Food & Drug Administration that use software to deliver a clinical benefit.

AMCP CEO Susan Cantrell, MHL, RPh, CAE explains the significance of this bill in the following statement:

“The Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act will ensure that innovative new therapies are available to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, which include some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Prescription digital therapeutics are effective in treating some of the most devastating diseases affecting patients, including substance use disorder and Parkinson’s disease.”

“I strongly encourage Members of Congress to co-sponsor and pass this important, bipartisan legislation that will improve access to care for millions of Americans. I thank the Senators and Congressmen for their leadership.”

More information on supporting the bill can be found in AMCP’s letter of support and grassroots advocacy campaign.
