AMCP Foundation Board of Trustees Swears in New Member, Summerpal Kahlon, MD

Denver, Colorado, March 30, 2017 — The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Summerpal Kahlon, MD, to its Board of Trustees. Dr. Kahlon’s term began at the conclusion of the AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting in Denver, Colo. 

The AMCP Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Academy. The Board of Trustees supports the Foundation’s educational and research mission to advance the quality and affordability of the U.S. health care system.

“The Foundation is delighted to have someone of Dr. Kahlon’s caliber on the Board,” says Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE, AMCP’s Chief Executive Officer and AMCP Foundation Chair. “He brings a unique perspective to the role of managed care pharmacy, and a deep understanding of how health information technology can improve patient health.”

Dr. Kahlon is Director of Care Innovation at Oracle Health Sciences, where he focuses on delivering technological infrastructure to support population health care and precision medicine. His interests center on applying information and communication technologies to transform the delivery of care. 

He also has worked in community practice in Florida as an adult infectious diseases specialist. He is on staff at the Orlando VA Medical Center and is affiliated with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Medicine. He earned his MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and received an MS in Healthcare Informatics from the University of Central Florida.

Eichenbrenner, CAE. “I am proud that our Board is comprised of experts representing a wide range of health care sectors, including, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, industry and employers. Together we can tackle challenging issues to improve patient care.”

Recent AMCP Foundation programming included last fall’s 6th Annual Research Symposium, “Balancing Access and Use of Opioid Therapy.” The event drew more than 125 participants to discuss how health plans, providers, advocacy groups, payers and other stakeholders can work together to ensure that patients have appropriate access to opioid pain therapies, while preventing their abuse. The Foundation also organizes the National Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Competition, which draws dozens of teams from schools of pharmacy nationwide, and sponsors a series of managed care pharmacy internships.

The Foundation would like to recognize the contributions of Edwin C. Hedblom, PharmD of 3M Health Care who concluded his service on the Board this month. Also at the Annual Meeting, Allan J. Chernov, MD was re-elected President and Kathleen Moreo, RN, BSN, CCM, Cm, CDMS of PRIME Education, Inc. was re-elected Vice President. Christopher V. Goff, Esq. of Employers Health was elected Treasurer.
