AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE, on the House Passage of the 21st Century Cures Act
Alexandria, Va., Nov. 30, 2016 — Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy CEO Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE, issued the following statement on the House passage of the 21st Century Cures Act:
“The Academy commends the House for its overwhelming passage of this important bipartisan legislation. There are provisions of this bill that we strongly support, and will result in improvements to the health of our citizens, from prompting new cures for cancer to combating opioid addiction, and much more. We are particularly heartened to see language in the bill (Section 3037) that would help ensure better communication between biopharmaceutical manufacturers and population health decision makers by modernizing section 114 of the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act (FDAMA). Section 3037 aligns with recommendations developed during a recent AMCP partnership forum on FDAMA 114 and will aid our members who are responsible for formulary decision making in evaluating the benefits and costs of drugs and health technologies. This is a crucial step in the evolution of our health care system from a fee-for-service model to a value-based system that will foster improved patient care.”
