Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Kicks Off AMCP Nexus 2018: Preparing for the Next Generation of Care
Orlando, Fla., Oct. 22, 2018 — Nearly 2,500 managed care pharmacy professionals have gathered in central Florida for the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's (AMCP) Nexus 2018, with the theme of Preparing for the Next Generation of Care. The conference, which runs Oct. 22-25, at the Orlando World Center Marriott, features more than 30 educational sessions and many ancillary programs on the trends and emerging models affecting the practice of managed care pharmacy.
"Our Nexus conference has become a must-attend event each fall for managed care pharmacy professionals from across the country," says AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE. "Nexus allows our attendees to gain important knowledge and share best practices on how to improve care for the nearly 300 million Americans covered by a managed pharmacy benefit."
The educational programming is divided into five tracks: (1) Preparing for the Next Generation of Care; (2) Drugs, Diseases and the Managed Care Impact; (3) Legislative and Regulatory Trends: From Rhetoric to Practice; (4) Managed Care Research in Action; and (5) Specialty Management: Keeping Up with Runaway Innovation. This year's General Session keynote speaker is Mick Ebeling, a health care technology entrepreneur and philanthropist. Ebeling is founder of Not Impossible Labs, a company committed to creating technology for the sake of humanity.
Nexus 2018 also includes 12 satellite symposia on diverse issues affecting health care; an Exchange hall featuring nearly 50 exhibitors presenting the latest ideas, tools and advancements, more than 300 posters on the latest research; 9 Science & Innovation Theaters and Industry Workshops providing additional deep-dives into managed care pharmacy issues; and programs designed specifically for student pharmacists. In addition, Nexus 2018 featured the AMCP Foundation 8th Annual Research Symposium titled "Trends in Health Care: Disruptors and Opportunities."
Attendees represent a wide range of professions, including managed care pharmacists; health plan administrators and medical directors; physicians and nurses; administrators with accountable care organizations (ACOs) and integrated delivery networks (IDNs); value-based contracting administrators; national account managers, health economics and outcomes research and medical science liaisons; formulary decision-makers; and Medicare Part D and Medicaid administrators.
