Managed Care Pharmacists’ Reach is Boundless

Dedicated to the health and welfare of patients, managed care pharmacists are responsible for the delivery of health care and prescription drug benefits to more than 300 million Americans. From working within health plan settings to pharmaceutical manufacturing, managed care pharmacists’ reach is boundless.

We have the opportunity to work with payers and health plans to provide formulary support, says Veeral Vyas, PharmD, RPh, PLCS, SBCS, AMCP Member and managed care pharmacists working within the pharmaceutical manufacturing setting. We work with health systems and decision-makers to make sure we are providing clinical evidence, health, economic data, real-world evidence, and connecting all the important payers together.

Dedication to Improve Patient Health

Every day, managed care pharmacists live AMCP’s mission to improve patient health by ensuring access to high-quality, cost-effective medications, and other therapies.

Our members advocate for lifesaving legislation like the Pre-Approval Information Exchange (PIE) Act, which “has the potential to save lives for generations to come,” says AMCP CEO Susan Cantrell, RPh, CAE. By enhancing the way manufacturers share information with payers and plans, we will safely accelerate patient access to life-saving treatments.

Strong Spirit of Volunteerism

There’s a true spirit of volunteerism in AMCP managed care pharmacists. Our members support each other and the larger health care system, joining member-run AMCP Affiliates to network and provide outreach to local pharmacists and other health care professionals.

AMCP Membership Committee member, Matt Moen, PharmD, MBA, says, I developed an appreciation for the diverse experience and skill sets that AMCP volunteers bring to the table. It’s exciting to participate in a group of individuals that are invested in the advancement of the organization and profession.

Commitment to Inspiring the Next Generation

Through AMCP Foundation, AMCP members and other health care leaders serve a key role in developing the next generation of managed care pharmacists. With programs such as the HBCU Travel Awards, the 2024 P&T Competition, and AMCP Foundation Internships, you have the opportunity to inspire health care leaders such as AMCP Board Member Amanda Bain, PharmD, MPH, MBA, FAMCP.

I’m thankful to so many amazing mentors I’ve interacted with because of my AMCP Foundation internship that played a part in helping me succeed with work that I love, says Bain. Managed care pharmacy is such an exciting area of work.

If you love managed care just as much as we do, show your support with a donation to AMCP Foundation. From now through April 18, our amazing AMCP Member, Gary Rice, PharmD, will match your donation up to $5,000.
