AMCP Foundation Partners with Allergan and Pfizer On Managed Care Summer Internships
Alexandria, Va., June 20, 2016 — The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation is delighted to announce that six student pharmacists from across the country will participate in summer internship programs offered by the AMCP Foundation in partnership with Allergan, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc.
Two student pharmacists were selected for the Allergan Specialized Summer Internship Program in Health Outcomes Research, which commences in June. Four student pharmacists will participate in the AMCP Foundation/Pfizer Managed Care Pharmacy Summer Internship Program, also starting this month. The six were selected through a highly competitive, nationwide selection process.
“We are proud to once again offer these prestigious internships,” says Paula J. Eichenbrenner, CAE, Executive Director of the AMCP Foundation. “This type of immersive programming fulfills the Foundation objectives: to provide educational opportunities regarding managed care principles, and to cultivate future pharmacy leaders.”
AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE, Chair of the AMCP Foundation Board of Trustees, added, “We are grateful for the generosity and foresight of Allergan and Pfizer. These manufacturers understand the value of supporting Foundation efforts designed to produce top-notch managed care pharmacists and health outcomes researchers — young professionals who are needed in today’s complex health care environment.”
The AMCP Foundation/Allergan program goal is to create awareness of career paths for Pharmacists in health economics and outcomes research, the underpinnings of evidence-based decision-making in managed health care systems globally. The interns will spend nine weeks at the Allergan Global Health Economics and Outcomes Research (GHEOR) Department in Irvine, Calif., where they will complete a health outcomes-related project, and one week at AMCP Foundation headquarters in Alexandria, Va.
The goal of the AMCP Foundation/Pfizer internship is to develop future leaders in managed health care through activities that expose interns to population health and managed care pharmacy principles, such as formulary management, benefit design, medication therapy management and adherence promotion. During the 10-week program, each intern is assigned to a health plan, pharmacy benefit management company or employer site. Interns also visit Pfizer corporate headquarters in New York City.
All interns will present their final projects in poster presentations at AMCP Nexus 2016, Oct. 3-6, in National Harbor, Md.
