Seizing Opportunity: AMCP Nexus 2016 Offers Knowledge, Advancement and More
“Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity,” said the great Hippocrates, father of western medicine.
Opportunity, in fact, is a crucial element in the work that managed care pharmacy professionals engage in every day to improve the health, wellbeing and “healing” of millions of patients. We seize opportunities to find the right medicines for the right patients at the right time. We explore opportunities to ensure that limited health care resources are well spent and provide value. And we take advantage of opportunities to help ourselves and our profession thrive, so that we may continue helping others.
This last point is what lies before us this fall: the opportunity to attend AMCP Nexus 2016 from Oct. 3-6 in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of the Nation’s Capital. At this important event, top health-care thought leaders from across the country will share their insights into the latest trends, challenges and opportunities (there it is again) affecting our ever-changing profession.
And as Hippocrates’ contemporary Plato once said, “A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers.”
Our programming offers the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge that goes well beyond the numbers. Here’s just a taste of the more than 30 sessions on the agenda:
● Turning Over a New Leaf in HIV/AIDS Management
● Treating Hormone Receptor–Positive Breast Cancer: A Brave New World
● Improving Treatment and Controlling Costs for Patients with Diabetes
● From Gaucher Disease to Tay-Sachs: Evaluating the Drug Treatment for Rare Diseases
● Implementing Precision Medicine into Primary Care
● Do Value Assessment Tools Measure Up?
● The New Medicaid Managed Care Rule: Implications for Pharmacy Programs
● Partnering with Community Pharmacy to Improve Blood Pressure Control and Adherence
● Success Stories in Medical Specialty Spend Management
● Bracing for Impact: Preparing for the 2018 Specialty Drug Spend
● Exchange of Health Care Economic Information Between Pharmaceuticals Companies and Managed Care Organizations: Current Limitations and Future Possibilities
In addition, Nexus 2016 features a must-attend General Session that will provide insights into the Democrats and Republicans’ competing visions for health care. The dueling keynote speakers are Chris Jennings, who served as Senior Advisor and Coordinator of Health Reform for President Obama, and served in a similar capacity in the Clinton White House; and Michael O. Leavitt, who served as President George W. Bush’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, and as governor of Utah for three terms.
I’ll end with one more quote from the great American business management guru, Peter Drucker: “Today knowledge has power. It controls access to opportunity and advancement.”
Indeed it does. I invite all stakeholders to attend Nexus 2016 where you will have an opportunity to gain the knowledge and power needed to advance our mission: “Improving health care for all.” I hope to see everyone this fall in National Harbor!
