More than 2,200 managed care professionals will convene Oct. 16-19 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center, Grapevine, Texas, to take on two of the hottest issues facing health care: The shift towards paying for value over volume and how it benefits patients, providers and payers, and the spectacular promise of new gene therapies – and the fierce challenges in paying for them.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy’s Nexus 2017: Changing Way We Pay for Health Care fall conference begins Mon. Oct. 19 with the AMCP Foundation symposium (below), followed Tuesday by panel discussion on paying for cures and, through Oct. 19, more than 30 education sessions.

Moderator Alan Weil, Editor in Chief of Health Affairs, will lead discussion on the foundational questions: “Will the system figure out a way to pay for cures? And if so, how?” From mortgages to warranties, value-based contacts to installment plans, our panelists will address the upsides and the challenges of each. Panelists include:

  • Dallas-area presenters include Paul Hain, MD, Regional President of Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Texas, and Kembre Roberts, Director of Wellness at Southwest Airlines. 
  • Keynote speaker is Alan Balch, PhD, CEO of the Patient Advocate Foundation. 
  • Moderating is Clifford Goodman, PhD, MS, Senior Vice President and Director, Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research at The Lewin Group. He served as Chair of MEDCAC (Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee).
