Statement from AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell on Potential Staff Cuts to Department of Health and Human Services

Alexandria, Va., Feb. 7, 2025 – Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) issued the following statement from AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell, MHL, RPh, CAE, about President Trump’s potential executive order to cut thousands of jobs at the Department of Health and Human Services:

"When a new administration takes office, certain personnel changes across the executive branch are to be expected. However, we are concerned about the impact of a potential executive order (EO) that would fire thousands of employees at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS is full of dedicated civil servants who promote the health and well-being of our nation, including children and elders. These men and women conduct crucial medical research, educate health care professionals, supervise health care policy, and much more.

We urge President Trump to reconsider the scope of this EO—one that unintentionally may make it more difficult for America’s most at-risk patients to receive the care and prescriptions they need desperately."
