AMCP Publishes 2024 Edition of “Access, Affordability, and Outcomes: The Value of Managed Care Pharmacy” Report

Alexandria, Va., October 11, 2024 – AMCP, in partnership with the AMCP Research Institute, published the 2024 edition of its annual Access, Affordability, and Outcomes: The Value of Managed Care Pharmacy report on October 11, 2024, explaining the fundamental concepts of managed care pharmacy and its impact on millions of Americans.

AAO Report 2024 Pages

New analysis in the 2024 edition examines the use of mail order pharmacies and 90-day supplies, as well as a comparison of costs for drugs covered under both pharmacy and medical benefits. Understanding these practices is crucial as the number of specialty medicines—many of which are dispensed via mail order or administered by physicians—continues to grow. Studying the use of mail order pharmacies and 90-day supplies (compared to 30-days’ supply) helps identify where patients may realize greater cost savings due to the method of purchase and the impact it may have on adherence and outcomes.

The report also explores pharmacy benefit design and implementation; formulary and medication utilization management; clinical programs; quality and safety program management; and ways to promote affordability for patients. These strategies improve clinical outcomes, ensure the appropriate use of medications, and help contain the rising costs of prescription drugs.
