Improving Quality, Value, and Outcomes with Patient-Reported Outcomes - Proceedings from the AMCP Partnership Forum
Webinar Recorded on April 11, 2018
As a result of the growing recognition to improve healthcare quality and value in the United States, there has been greater awareness of the need to amplify the patient voice their healthcare management. Understanding the needs and preferences of patients, with the use of Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO’s) can better align treatment decisions and reveal what patients truly value. While there have been significant strides by stakeholders to utilize PROs as part of patient-centered care, significant alignment gaps exist among health care stakeholders. Further, there are challenges that transcend stakeholders, including clear and defined methodology for developing, collecting and utilizing PROs, engaging patients throughout the entire PRO process, and technology and infrastructure limitations.
The Forum focused on mapping out an “ideal state” for the appropriate use of PRO’s across all health care stakeholders entities. In addition, the multi-stakeholder group identified recommendations to mitigate the challenges that hindering PRO adoption. The findings strongly indicate that further investment in education along with on-going needs assessment is necessary for the “ideal state” to be achieved.
