COPD: Simplifying a Complex Treatment Paradigm for Managed Care

Science and Innovation Theater Webinars

Webinar Recorded on July 8, 2020
Sponsored by GSK

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of death in the US, with total medical costs of COPD at nearly $50 billion.

The Global Initiative for Obstructive Disease (GOLD) 2020 report states that COPD is a treatable disease and highlights two specific treatable traits, which may impact various areas of disease burden. These are the patient:

  • Symptoms, which link to quality of life, psychological functioning and mortality, and
  • Exacerbations, which link to mortality, decline in lung function, quality of life, cardiovascular events and an enormous burden on the healthcare system.

This program covers these treatable traits, which guide pharmacotherapy to lessen the symptom burden and decrease risk of future exacerbations. Understanding these treatable traits can help managed care professionals ensure appropriate access to evidence-based approaches that allow HCPs to better diagnose patients and select optimal therapy.
