Preventing and Treating Opioid Overdose: A Managed Care Perspective

Drug overdose is now a leading cause of preventable death in the United States, with 61% of all drug overdose deaths attributable to opioids. To combat this increase, many state legislatures, boards of pharmacy, and individual health care organizations have taken steps to improve access to opioid overdose antidotes and to educate both patients and providers on the prevention and treatment of opioid overdose. This webinar will:
- Provide a legal and regulatory overview of state level access to opioid overdose antidotes
- Discuss best practices for educating both patients and providers on the prevention opioid overdose
- Discuss best practices for increasing access and availability of opioid overdose antidotes through managed care
- Provide guidance on ensuring appropriate medical referral and follow through for patients that have been administered an opioid overdose antidote
