AMCP recognizes the preparation of compounding products pursuant to or in anticipation of a prescription, which is intended to meet the specific needs of an individual patient when those needs are not met by a commercially available product, whether due to lack of manufacturing or due to shortage. Compounded products should meet all regulatory requirements for purity and quality while ensuring patients receive customized therapeutics in a timely and affordable manner. AMCP also recognizes the important role compounding pharmacies play in supporting public health initiatives and emergencies.
