More than 3,500 managed care professionals from health plans, PBMs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and other managed care organizations convened in New Orleans from April 15-18 for AMCP 2024, the industry’s largest and most impactful annual meeting. Attendees connected with like-minded professionals, discussed the important trends impacting their work, and expanded their horizons through cutting-edge education sessions.

Our nation faces some serious health care challenges, but we can’t afford to throw up our hands. Solutions will take our collective efforts; they will take partnerships across disciplines and geographies. They will take commitment and collaboration as we look to chip away at and make progress on the issues.

- AMCP CEO, Susan Cantrell, MHL, RPh, CAE

Health care leaders from different backgrounds spoke to attendees about the importance of managed care pharmacy in the modern health care ecosystem. Kicking off the annual meeting was former NFL long-snapper, magician, and America’s Got Talent finalist Jon Dorenbos who dazzled audiences with his amazing magic and powerful life story. Audiences were also educated by keynote-speaker Doug Long on the future of managed care pharmacy.

Many members took to social media to visualize their connection of being an MCP. Whether they took a photo for the mosaic wall or used #WeAreMCPs in their social media, attendees were reminded of AMCP's mission to optimize medicine and improve patient health care. So far more than 2,000 photos have been taken and more than 22,000 people have visited and engaged with the #WeAreMCPs campaign.

AMCP also honored select AMCP Members during the AMCP Awards reception as well as recognized the newest leaders joining the AMCP Board of Directors. AMCP Board of Directors President Christina Barrington, PharmD, also thanked James Hopsicker, RPh, MBA, FAMCP, for his service as AMCP Board President.

I’m passionate about AMCP and its mission because I’ve seen how important it is to have affordable access to lifesaving and life-enhancing treatments. I saw it firsthand with my own family members who have struggled with their health. I know how important it was that they had the prescriptions that they needed.  I also know how important it is to countless patients and their families across the United States that they have the same access.

Attendees had the opportunity to hear from industry experts about the issues and developments in the managed care pharmacy industry. From learning about the Inflation Reduction Act, understanding state and federal issues and understanding the world of weight-loss medication, attendees learned more about topical issues.

Attendees also had the chance to network and connect with other attendees and exhibitors during our Expo. 80 companies (an increase from last year) displayed the latest technology, non-profit work, and more. Thank you to all those who helped showcase the latest in managed care pharmacy.
