In today's health care system there is a greater focus on improving quality.  All health care providers are expected to participate in quality improvement programs and share those results with a variety of individuals.  

Our organizations must have adequate and appropriate structures and processes in place to reliably execute a quality program.  

The Academy has established an e-mail distribution list for members to receive alerts and provide input on matters related to the many quality initiatives in which the Academy participates. The Quality Interest Group is open to all members with a specific interest or expertise in quality initiatives. AMCP will send e-mail updates and requests for input to members of this group on an as-needed basis - from once a week to once every three months.  To participate in this group, please email memberservices@amcp.org

  • Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) – AHRQ is the lead Federal agency charged with improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care.  
  • AHRQ National Quality Measures Clearinghouse – web-based public repository for evidence-based quality measures and measure sets. 
  • Effective Health Care Program – AHRQ's Effective Health Care Program is dedicated to facilitating decision making by publishing researched-based guides for researchers, clinicians and consumers that provide information about safety, side effects and appropriate use of medications for certain diseases.   
  • Quality Tools through Innovations Exchange – AHRQ has developed an Innovation Exchange program created to assist health care professionals in adopting innovations to improve the delivery of health care. A highlight of this program is the Quality Tools section. Quality Tools offers tools for assessing, measuring, promoting and improving the quality of health care.  
  • Medicare Quality Improvement Community (MedQIC) – MedQIC is an online quality improvement information resource supported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). MedQIC supports the Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) and other providers of services to Medicare beneficiaries in finding, using, and sharing quality improvement resources thereby advancing the quality improvement community. The tasks of adopting health information technology, measuring and reporting performance, redesigning processes and transforming organizational culture are all part of Medicare’s National Quality Improvement Priority Topics. MedQIC supports pharmacy, physician office’s, home health, nursing homes, hospitals and the underserved communities.  
  • National Quality Forum (NQF) – NQF was created to develop and implement a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting and to bring about national change.  
  • Therapeutic Drug Management Quality – The NQF proposes to work with the full range of stakeholders to identify a framework, best practices and performance measures that could be used across the spectrum of healthcare settings and providers to provide meaningful information to consumers, purchasers, providers, healthcare professionals, quality improvement organizations, and researchers about therapeutic drug management.  
  • Quality Positioning System (QPS) – QPS is a tool to help you find NQF-endorsed measures quickly and easily.   
  • National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA) – NCQA is dedicated to improving health care quality by developing quality standards and performance measures for a broad range of health care entities. These measures and standards are tools that organizations and individuals can use to identify opportunities for improvement.   
  • Quality Profiles – NCQA Accreditation program has greatly accelerated efforts in the industry to systematically improve health care delivery. Through that program, NCQA has developed an extensive database summarizing what managed care organizations are currently doing to affect quality improvement.   
  • Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) – PQA is a collaborative initiative involving all interested organizations and stakeholders that are committed to improving health care quality and patient safety through measuring performance; collecting data; and reporting information to help make informed choices and improve outcomes and stimulate the development of new payment models.  
  • The American Health Quality Association – The American Health Quality Association represents Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) and professionals working to improve the quality of health care in communities across America. QIOs share information about best practices with physicians, hospitals, and nursing homes. Working together with health care providers, QIOs identify opportunities and provide assistance for improvement.  
  • URAC – URAC is a leader in promoting health care quality through its accreditation and certification programs. URAC offers a wide range of quality benchmarking programs and services that keep pace with the rapid changes in the health care system, and provide a symbol of excellence for organizations to validate their commitment to quality and accountability.
