AMCP Responds to Senate Approval of Drug Quality & Security Act 

AMCP today released the following statement by CEO Edith A. Rosato, RPh, IOM, in response to Senate passage of the Drug Quality and Security Act (HR 3204), a bill that would enhance the security of drug distribution and create a new entity in statute ("outsourcing facility) for the compounding of drugs.


USP Medicare Guidelines for Medicare Only, AMCP Urges 

AMCP has asked the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) to urge the federal government to use the newly announced USP Medicare Model Guidelines v6.0 for Formulary Categories and Classes with just Medicare populations, not with younger populations in the commercial marketplace.


AMCP Launches Biosimilars Task Force to Show Safety and Efficacy 

AMCP today established a Biosimilars Task Force to begin developing a Biosimilars Collective Intelligence System to document their safety and efficacy, using continuous analysis of available data for innovator specialty drugs as reference points.


AMCP-Opposed Biosimilars Bill Vetoed by Gov. Brown 

AMCP today issued a statement in response to California Gov. Edmund G. Brown, Jr.’s veto of Senate Bill 598, which would have created a separate state system for dispensing biosimilar products before the federal government completed its review of biosimilars and implemented a national policy.


AMCP Calls on HHS to Expand Role of Pharmacists 

AMCP today called on the federal government to expand the role of pharmacists in providing primary care in Medicare and reducing adverse drug events.


California Grants Pharmacists Provider Status 

California Gov. Edmund G. Brown, Jr., signed into law Senate Bill 493, authorizing pharmacists to perform additional health care services. The new law also recognizes pharmacists with specialized training as “advance practice pharmacists.”

AMCP Recommended Veto of Mass. Bill Requiring Cost Parity Between Oral and Injectable Chemotherapies 

The Academy earlier this month urged Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to veto a bill that would have required health plans to cover oral chemotherapy agents at the same patient cost-sharing level as intravenous (IV) or injected chemotherapy agents. 


AMCP Urges CMS to Evaluate Existing Quality Measures for Use in Exchanges 

The Academy recommends that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) evaluate existing national quality health measures before implementing quality metrics in state health insurance Exchanges starting in 2016.
