The resident must be a graduate or candidate for graduation of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy and hold the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The resident must be eligible to obtain licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of Florida.

Special Features: 
The PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy residency at Nova Southeastern University is a 12-month training program designed to build upon the professional knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities from the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education. The residency program will provide a pharmacist with professional competence in the delivery of patient and population-based pharmaceutical care in a variety of managed care and value-based care settings. The practice site is centered in the College’s ACO Research Network, Services, and Education Division (ACORN SEED), which is an AHRQ practice-based research network in South Florida. The resident will have the opportunity to develop and pilot new quality-focused clinical initiatives at the NSU College of Pharmacy Adherence, Transitions & MTM Center, gain population health & patient care experience in value-based ambulatory care environments, gain experience in medication adherence, transitions of care, medication therapy management and complete up to two elective experiences. Managed care experiences will take place in public & private health plans throughout South Florida. The resident will be required to complete a longitudinal research project and present results at regional and or national pharmacy meetings. The resident will participate in the ITALICSRx Teaching Certificate Program at Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy. As a part of this program the resident will be introduced to pedagogical strategies through live seminars, gain experience delivering didactic education, serve as a laboratory facilitator and precept pharmacy students on clinical rotations. The resident will be assigned to a Teaching Certificate Program Mentor and be responsible for completing a Teaching Portfolio. Residents will also have opportunities to provide informal and formal education to members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team across different rotations Upon completion of the PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy residency program, the resident will be prepared to assume a position in a health-system, managed care or value-based care environment. The program is designed to equip the resident to be a member of an interdisciplinary member of the managed care health team to apply population and patient-level care. Unique to this program is a focus on value-based care and ambulatory population health. The program allows sufficient flexibility to adapt to the individual needs and interests of the resident through elective experiences.
