The Post Graduate Year 1 Residency in Managed Care prepares residents to be well-rounded managed care pharmacists with the skills to practice in a variety of health care organizations, such as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), accountable care organizations (ACOs), and managed care organizations (MCOs). This longitudinal residency is based at CareMore Health Plan in Cerritos, California, which serves Medicare populations. The residency provides a broad range of professional experiences at CareMore Health Plan and the USC School of Pharmacy. Experiences at CareMore Health Plan includes: medication therapy management, clinical program development, drug utilization review, project management, data analysis, formulary development and maintenance, drug information, contracting and rebates, compliance, pharmacy benefits management oversight, direct patient care, health care professional’s education, and the opportunity to participate in optional electives. One day a week will be spent at the USC School of Pharmacy, where the resident will participate in physical assessment training, BLS, ACLS certification, teaching skills course, research methods, giving lectures, conducting small group case discussions and precepting APPE students. Residents will also be completing a project suitable for presentation and publication. |
